July 2008 Board Meeting
Capital City Baptist AssociationBoard Meeting – July 14, 2008Meadowbrook Baptist Church, Auburn David Van Bebber, pastor of the host church, welcomed those in attendance, shared scripture from 1 Peter 1:3-5. Pastor Van Bebber, accompanied by Patricia Van Bebber, Meadowbrook Baptist Church, led the singing of the hymn “Victory in Jesus”. Brother Ed Decker, member of the host church, led the opening prayer. The meeting was called to order by Donald Full, Moderator. Minutes of the April 14, 2008 Board Meeting were presented. Delbert Halleman, Meadowbrook, moved that the minutes be approved as presented. Dale Emerson, Springfield Southern, seconded the motion. Minutes were approved. Bob Spencer, Treasurer, presented the
Treasurer’s Report, which is attached. Ken White, Eastview, moved to approve the Treasurer’s Report; Don Neisler, Mt Zion Kilbourne, seconded the motion. Report was approved as presented. Dale Emerson reported on behalf of the CCBA
Feasibility Committee and
Trustees for CCBA. There was no report from the Feasibility Committee. Trustees reported that the roof of the Capital City Baptist Association office building will be worked on by the World Changers team that will be here this month. Milton Bost, DOM, presented the report of the
Administrative Team. He directed the Board’s attention to the printed report and no recommendations were made. Milton Bost highlighted points from the printed
Director of Missions report. Milton asked for prayer for his daughter, Daphne, who had surgery the morning of the meeting. He reported she is doing well. Milton Bost, DOM, reported for the
Church Health team in Sylvan Knobloch’s absence. They have met with several pastors regarding lay renewal, and will be meeting with four more. Delbert Penrod,
Stewardship Director, reported that no Great Challenge programs were done in the association this quarter. Mike Keppler, Springfield Southern, reported that the
Comprehensive Leadership Development Team has met a couple of times and their new emphasis for this year will be “Cultivating New Leadership”. The team will be gathering to identify ten individuals who will be introduced to a mentor, then go through accountability, apprenticeship, and finally “graduation”. Let the team know if there are young people in your church who should be included in this gathering. The next team meeting will be September 29, 2008. Mike Keppler reported that the
Personnel Committee has had four meetings since the first of the year regarding reworking of policy relating to employees; ongoing DOM evaluation; and continuing budget process. Mike publicly expressed what a fine, effective leader we have in our DOM, Milton Bost. Don Full, Havana Southern, reported for the
Pastoral Ministries team in the absence of John Keyes, team director. The frequency of lunches has been reduced. It is felt that rising gas prices is one thing affecting this ministry. Susan Full,
Media Library Director, reported that she had a productive meeting at Athens, and reminded those in attendance that she is available to help churches with their libraries. Dennis File directed the Board’s attention to the printed report of the
Broad Membership Involvement team. The team is looking for host churches for two of their upcoming events – “Harmony in the Heartland” in the spring, and an area-wide Easter presentation similar to the upcoming “The Love of the Lamb” at Chatham Baptist in December. Dennis also expressed his appreciation for Milton’s involvement in the various activities. Delbert Halleman reported that the
Disaster Relief Team has had an unusual six months. They’ve been to Wisconsin, Quincy and Iowa. Delbert asked that we pray for a truck to pull the trailer, and for a “trailer person” to manage the equipment when the trailer is out.
Miscellaneous business: -Milton Bost requested that CCBA request a student summer missionary to work in the Capital City Baptist Association churches from the middle of June thru August 7, 2009. Dennis File seconded the request. It was agreed that a local student is preferred. -A New Church Committee was appointed to consider the request from Delta Church to affiliate with Capital City Baptist Association. The Committee will consist of Del Halleman, Meadowbrook; Melissa Phillips, Springfield Southern; Mark Emerson, Living Faith; Milton Bost, DOM and Don Full, Association Moderator. Rick Heironimus from the Illinois Baptist State Association, did a presentation on Guidestone’s Quick Guide for Final 403(b) Regulations for Southern Baptist Churches. He suggested that churches go to Guidestone’s web site at
www.Guidestone.org to check out their many financial resources.
Church Reports: - Havana Southern has a new steeple and lighted cross. VBS average attendance was 132. They also have the new Baptist Hymnals.
- Meadowbrook, Auburn reported that 30 World Changers from Auburn went to Texas. They were excited for their upcoming VBS.
- Kincaid had three salvations during VBS.
- Mt Zion, Kilbourne was looking forward to their upcoming VBS.
- Greenview will be getting stage monitors and are totally wireless. Their VBS is in two weeks.
- Springfield Southern had a good VBS attendance, with 10 professions of faith. They gave their largest VBS offering ($1,750) to El Cielo. They will be hosting two World Changers teams, and their fine arts emphasis is coming up, including Dino.
- Sandridge New Hope recently held a fish fry and gospel sing with the Chosen Ones with about 75 attending. They have also built a DVD library.
- New Life, Athens has a new praise team, angel food ministry is going well. The spirit in their church is great – these are exciting times.
- Eastview averaged 133 in VBS. They are purchasing new hymnals.
- Chatham has had 29 additions in the last 10 months. They have had two all-church fellowships. The youth participated in a mystery mission trip.
- Living Faith has completed two of three mission trips planned for this summer and is in the midst of VBS.
